5 Overpowered Jutsus That Were So Broken They Were Never Used in Boruto Anime
The Boruto series has been criticized for nerfing some of the most powerful characters from Naruto Shippuden. But the real question is: why were certain game-breaking jutsus completely ignored? These techniques could have easily solved most of the major conflicts in Boruto, but the writers chose to forget they existed. Let's dive into the most overpowered abilities that mysteriously disappeared.
1. Sasuke's Six Paths Ten-Tails Coffin Seal - The Jutsu That Could Have Ended Everything
Sasuke's Rinnegan possessed one of the most broken abilities in the entire Naruto universe. I'm not talking about his Paths or dimensional travel, but one simple ability that could've defeated Jigen, Isshiki, made Code completely useless, and destroyed the entire plan to cultivate the Divine Tree on Earth.
The Rinnegan has another devastating ability that both Obito and Madara used called the Six Paths Ten-Tails Coffin Seal. Its main purpose was to seal the Ten Tails inside the user by performing the necessary hand seals, instantly transforming them into a jinchuriki with godlike power. Sasuke personally witnessed this entire process when Obito performed it during the Fourth Great Ninja War.
As displayed above, Sasuke had his Sharingan active during the entire sealing process, which means he copied every single hand seal and should know exactly how to perform this technique. The Sharingan's ability to copy any jutsu it sees is well-established in the series, so there's no logical reason why Sasuke wouldn't know this technique.
Why This Changes Everything in Boruto
In Boruto chapter 35, Sasuke witnessed Jigen's overwhelming power firsthand and immediately realized that he was completely outmatched. He also sensed that Jigen had traveled to Naruto's location, which is how Sasuke managed to arrive just in time to save Naruto from being stranded in a different dimension. This proves that Sasuke understood the severity of the threat they were facing.
Here's where the plot hole becomes massive: Jigen's base had a Ten Tails chained up and guarded by minimal security. Sasuke could have easily used his Rinnegan's dimensional travel to infiltrate the base, perform the Six Paths Ten-Tails Coffin Seal, and become the Ten Tails jinchuriki before confronting Jigen.
If the plot didn't nerf him so severely, Sasuke would have absorbed the Ten Tails to become its jinchuriki, gaining the same astronomical power boost that made Obito and Madara nearly invincible. Then, with this massive power amplification, he could have fought Jigen alongside Naruto with a much higher chance of victory.
The Power Difference Would Be Insane
Some fans argue that Sasuke might be reluctant about acquiring new powers due to the crimes he committed during Shippuden and his desire for atonement. However, this reasoning falls apart when you consider the stakes involved. Sasuke is the same shinobi who didn't flinch when facing Madara and Kaguya's god-tier power. Yet he was genuinely terrified of Jigen's strength. When facing an extinction-level threat to the entire planet, everything else should come second, and Sasuke has always been pragmatic enough to understand that.
The scenario would play out like this: Sasuke becomes the Ten Tails jinchuriki, rushes to save Naruto from being sealed away, and together they fight Jigen with overwhelming force. Due to the astronomical amplification that the Ten Tails grants its user (we saw this with Obito and Madara), there's little doubt that the duo would defeat or even kill Jigen in battle.
Even if Jigen died and Isshiki was forced to reincarnate in an imperfect vessel, he would still face certain defeat. Either SPSM (Six Paths Sage Mode) Naruto combined with Ten Tails Jinchuriki Sasuke would overwhelm him, or if things got desperate, Baryon Mode Naruto would definitely finish the job. The difference is that Naruto wouldn't have to sacrifice Kurama, and Sasuke would still have his Rinnegan.
Why This Would Solve Every Major Boruto Conflict
Think about the ripple effects of this one decision:
- Jigen would be defeated before Isshiki could properly manifest
- The Divine Tree couldn't be planted on Earth since the Ten Tails would be sealed in Sasuke
- Code would lose his purpose entirely since there'd be no Ten Tails to guard or cultivate
- Naruto would keep Kurama since Baryon Mode wouldn't be necessary
- Sasuke would keep his Rinnegan and remain at full power
- The entire Otsutsuki invasion plan would collapse
But of course, if Sasuke actually used his brain and remembered this ability, there would be no Boruto story. The writers needed to nerf the original generation to give the new characters a chance to shine, even if it meant ignoring established lore and creating massive plot holes.
2. Naruto's Truth-Seeking Orbs
Remember when Naruto had Truth-Seeking Orbs during his fight with Kaguya? These black orbs could nullify any ninjutsu and disintegrate anything they touched. They were so overpowered that they could permanently erase someone from existence, preventing even Edo Tensei resurrection. Yet in Boruto, these orbs mysteriously vanished with no explanation. If Naruto still had access to these, most Boruto villains wouldn't stand a chance.
3. Infinite Tsukuyomi Counter-Genjutsu
Sasuke's Rinnegan has the power to break people free from the Infinite Tsukuyomi, which means he should theoretically be able to dispel or resist almost any genjutsu-based attack. This ability alone would make several Boruto conflicts trivial, especially those involving mind control or illusion techniques. Yet it's never mentioned or utilized in creative ways.
4. Naruto's Six Paths Healing
During the war arc, Naruto could heal fatal injuries and even restore destroyed organs using Six Paths chakra. He saved Might Guy from certain death after using the Eight Gates, and healed Kakashi's eye socket. This ability would have been invaluable during countless Boruto battles where characters are severely injured. Instead, it's completely forgotten.
5. Sasuke's Perfect Susanoo Flight
Sasuke's Perfect Susanoo can fly at incredible speeds and provides near-impenetrable defense. Combined with his dimensional travel, this makes him virtually untouchable in combat. Yet in Boruto, he rarely uses Susanoo at all, and when he does, it's easily destroyed or bypassed. The same technique that fought Kaguya is now treated as weak, which makes no logical sense.
Conclusion: Plot-Induced Nerfing
The truth is that Naruto and Sasuke were too powerful for the Boruto storyline. The writers needed to weaken them drastically to create tension and give the new generation room to grow. While this makes sense from a narrative standpoint, the execution has been controversial among fans. Instead of creating new, stronger threats that would naturally challenge these god-tier shinobi, the series chose to make characters forget their abilities or have them mysteriously disappear.
What do you think? Should the writers have found better ways to handle the power scaling, or was the nerfing necessary for Boruto's story to work? Let us know in the comments!
